Material Overview

420J2 is one of the lowest carbon stainless steels used in knife manufacturing. Its very low carbon content makes it extremely easy to sharpen and highly resistant to corrosion, but also results in poor edge retention and soft cutting performance. It is often used in budget knives, dive knives, and applications where rust resistance and flexibility are more important than sharpness longevity. While it is not suitable for performance-focused cutting tasks, it remains practical in entry-level and specialized low-stress environments.
