Material Overview

A2 is a classic air-hardening tool steel designed for strength, stability, and toughness rather than corrosion resistance. It is widely used in industrial tooling and has been adopted by knife makers for its excellent resistance to chipping and cracking under stress. Compared to O1, A2 offers better dimensional stability during heat treatment and improved toughness, but still requires maintenance due to its non-stainless nature. It is favored in hard-use knives where reliability matters more than corrosion resistance.
