Material Overview

52100 steel was originally developed for bearing applications, which require extreme durability and resistance to rolling fatigue. In knives, it is valued for its fine grain structure, excellent toughness, and very smooth edge behavior. It is not stainless, so it requires maintenance, but it performs exceptionally well in slicing and controlled cutting tasks. Many custom knife makers favor it for its refinement and edge stability after proper heat treatment.
