Material Overview

440A is the lowest-carbon member of the 440 stainless steel family, which makes it softer than 440B and 440C. This results in easier sharpening and decent corrosion resistance, but reduced edge retention. It is widely used in budget knives where cost, rust resistance, and ease of maintenance are more important than high performance. While it is considered outdated compared to modern steels, it remains practical for light everyday cutting tasks.
