Material Overview

420HC (High Carbon) is an improved version of standard 420 stainless steel with higher carbon content, giving it better hardness and edge retention while maintaining excellent corrosion resistance. When properly heat treated (notably by Buck Knives), it performs significantly better than standard expectations for the 420 family. It is considered a reliable, user-friendly steel for general-purpose knives where ease of maintenance is more important than extreme cutting performance.
