9Cr14MoV is a Chinese high-carbon martensitic stainless steel. Within the Chinese "Cr" series, it is a high-end grade, sitting above the common 8Cr13MoV but just below the premium 9Cr18MoV.

It is often compared to the Japanese AUS-8 or AUS-10 and the American 440C, offering a solid balance of hardness and corrosion resistance.

Key Characteristics

  • High Hardness: Thanks to its 0.9% carbon content, it is typically heat-treated to 58–60 HRC. This allows it to hold a sharp edge for a significantly longer time than 8Cr series steels.

  • Good Corrosion Resistance: With 14% chromium, it qualifies as a true stainless steel. It resists rust well in most daily environments, though it is slightly less "stainless" than 8Cr17MoV.

  • Sharpness: The addition of Vanadium (V) refines the grain structure, allowing the blade to take a very fine, razor-like edge.

  • Excellent Value: It offers near-premium performance while remaining affordable, making it a favorite for "budget-plus" or mid-range knives.
