材质综述

Shirogami #2 (White Paper Steel #2) is one of the purest carbon steels produced by Hitachi and is considered the foundation of traditional Japanese knife making. Compared to Shirogami #1, it contains slightly less carbon, resulting in improved toughness and easier heat treatment while sacrificing a small amount of maximum hardness and edge retention. Its extremely low alloy content creates a fine grain structure that allows razor-like sharpness and exceptionally easy sharpening. Many Japanese bladesmiths consider Shirogami #2 one of the best steels for experiencing traditional Japanese cutting performance. Due to the absence of chromium, it is highly reactive and requires careful maintenance.
