H1 is a Japanese nitrogen-based stainless steel developed primarily for extreme corrosion resistance. Unlike traditional steels that rely heavily on carbon, H1 replaces much of the carbon with nitrogen, making it virtually immune to rust in saltwater environments. The steel work-hardens during use and grinding, improving edge stability over time. While edge retention is moderate compared to premium high-carbide steels, H1 excels in wet and humid environments where corrosion resistance is the highest priority.
