8Cr13MoV is a Chinese high-carbon martensitic stainless steel that has become one of the most popular "value" steels in the global knife industry.

It is widely considered the Chinese equivalent to the Japanese AUS-8 steel, offering a very similar performance profile at a lower production cost.

Key Characteristics

• Best-in-Class Value: It offers an excellent balance of performance for its price. This is why famous brands like Spyderco (Tenacious line), Kershaw, and CRKT use it for their entry-level flagship models.

• Decent Edge Retention: Typically hardened to 57–59 HRC, it holds an edge significantly better than the 420 series or 440A, though it falls behind mid-range steels like 14C28N.
