10Cr15CoMoV (often simply called 10Cr15MoV) is a high-end Chinese stainless steel that is designed to be a direct equivalent to the famous Japanese VG-10 steel.
It is currently one of the highest-performing stainless steels produced in China and is a favorite for premium kitchen knives and high-quality EDC (Everyday Carry) folding knives.
Key Characteristics
VG-10 Equivalent: It shares almost the same chemical composition as Japanese VG-10. If you like how a high-end Japanese chef knife performs, 10Cr15CoMoV will feel very similar.
High Hardness: It can be heat-treated to a hardness of 59–62 HRC. This allows it to hold a very thin, aggressive edge for a long time.
Excellent Corrosion Resistance: With 15% Chromium, it is highly resistant to rust and food acids, making it perfect for kitchen environments.
Cobalt Addition: The "Co" in the full name (Cobalt) is the "secret sauce." Cobalt strengthens the steel and allows it to be hardened to higher levels without becoming too brittle, resulting in a very stable edge.

Carbon (C): 1.05% (Very high; for excellent edge retention and hardness).
Chromium (Cr): 15.00% (Provides strong stainless properties).
Cobalt (Co): 1.50% (Increases strength and allows for higher tempering temperatures).
Molybdenum (Mo): 1.00% (Increases toughness and prevents pitting).
Vanadium (V): 0.20% (Refines grain for a sharper edge).
Common Applications
Premium Kitchen Knives: Frequently used as the "core steel" in Damascus-clad kitchen knives. Brands like Zhen or high-end AliExpress makers (like Xinzuo or Hezhen) use it extensively.
High-End EDC Knives: Used by brands like Civivi, Kizer, and Kansept as a more premium alternative to 9Cr18MoV or D2.
Damascus Steel: Because it etches beautifully and provides a high-performance edge, it is the most common center-layer steel for modern Chinese-made Damascus blades.
