Chinese handmade pocket knife brand Sao Tools has unveiled its latest creation — the "F-Trapper" （捕梦者， "Dream Catcher"), a modernized reinterpretation of one of the brand's earliest designs. According to founder Max Sao, the F-Trapper marks the third completed entry in the brand's "Four Modernizations" project, with the "Flying Elephant" （飞大象） set to follow as the next release.
Six Years in the Making: From the Original Trapper to F-Trapper
The F-Trapper traces its roots back six years to the winter of 2020, when Max Sao produced the first-generation "Trapper" （捕手）. That original blade was ground entirely by hand — a process born of necessity: dissatisfied with a poorly cut nail nick, he ground away the existing false edge and re-cut the nail nick entirely, then reshaped the blade around the Trapper's signature S-curve. The result was a noticeably more sinuous, graceful blade line — an accidental refinement that would define the character of the design.
The new F-Trapper carries that S-shaped blade lineage forward into a fully modernized platform, pairing the handcrafted blade heritage with updated design and construction.
A Poetic Design Philosophy: Catch the Dream, Don't Be Caught by It
Accompanying the launch, the brand shared a poetic statement on the knife's name: dreams drift and scatter at night — sweet dreams are fleeting, while nightmares linger; what cannot be grasped is the illusion, not the true desire within. "Catch the dream — don't be trapped by the dream," the statement reads, encapsulating the philosophy behind the "Dream Catcher" name.
