CPM 3V and CPM 4V are both high-performance powder metallurgy tool steels designed for heavy-duty use. While 3V is the industry benchmark for toughness, 4V is a "hot-rodded" version that sacrifices some impact resistance for significantly higher wear resistance.

  • CPM-3V (The King of Toughness): This steel is legendary for its ability to resist breaking, chipping, and snapping. It is arguably the toughest steel available at its hardness level. It is designed to be "unbreakable" under extreme lateral stress or high-impact tasks.

  • CPM-4V (High Toughness): While still much tougher than standard steels like D2 or S30V, 4V is significantly less tough than 3V. It is more rigid and brittle, meaning it is more likely to chip if it hits a hard object during a high-impact swing compared to 3V.
