CIVIVI has a habit of quietly filling gaps in its catalog before anyone loudly asks for them, and the Zelthara is a good example. It is a button-lock folder with a 3.3-inch blade, an aluminum handle, and a $82 price tag — not the flashiest configuration in the lineup, but one that hits a very practical middle ground.

This one is a pre-order rather than a shelf item, with CIVIVI listing an estimated ship date of October 29. That gives buyers a couple of weeks to decide whether the spec sheet lines up with how they actually carry a knife.

Two-Way Deployment, One-Handed Close

The Zelthara is built around a button lock, which remains the most user-friendly lock type for anyone who dislikes putting a thumb in the path of a closing blade. Pressing the button releases the lock, and with a light wrist motion the blade swings shut — no liner to chase, no frame lock to pry.

CIVIVI also notes that the button runs on a spring tuned to resist accidental opening while still releasing cleanly. That is the detail most budget button locks get wrong: too soft and the knife opens in a pocket, too stiff and the whole point of the lock is lost.

Deployment comes from an integrated flipper, riding on caged ceramic ball bearings. Caged bearings are worth calling out at this price — they hold their alignment better than loose balls and tend to stay smooth after the factory lubricant has migrated.

Why 14C28N Still Makes Sense

There was a stretch where every new release seemed obligated to advertise a high-vanadium super steel, and 14C28N got treated like the sensible older sibling nobody wanted to talk about. That was always a mistake. Sandvik's 14C28N is tough, extremely corrosion resistant, and takes a very fine edge quickly — qualities that matter far more in daily use than a few extra points of wear resistance.

At 58–60 HRC with a flat grind and 3 mm stock, this is a knife that will slice well and sharpen on a coffee mug if it has to. The stonewash finish hides the scratches that accumulate on any working blade, which is exactly the right pairing for a sub-$100 user.

Where It Sits in the Lineup

Eighty-two dollars puts the Zelthara in direct competition with CIVIVI's own Elementum and Praxis families, and with button-lock folders from Kizer and Vosteed. What it offers over most of those is the aluminum handle — lighter and stiffer than G10, and less likely to snag on a pocket seam — combined with a weight of just 3.21 oz.

The trade-off is grip texture. Aluminum handles with machined finishes look excellent but can get slick once your hands are wet. Buyers who work outdoors in the rain may prefer a textured G10 model at a similar price; everyone else gets a slimmer, lighter knife for the same money.

The left-or-right tip-up clip is also worth noting, since ambidextrous clip mounting is still not universal in this bracket.

The Verdict

The Zelthara is not trying to be the most exciting knife CIVIVI makes this year, and that is fine. It is a well-priced, lightweight button lock with a sensible steel, a genuinely usable 3.3-inch blade, and hardware that punches above $82.

If you have been waiting for a reason to try a button lock without spending $150, this is a low-risk way in — provided you are comfortable with a pre-order that ships at the end of the month.
